Palm Trees Are So Cliche

As I lounged in my neighbors pool today while they are on vacation, I couldn't help but notice the abundant overtaking of palm trees in our neighborhood. Every back yard has at least 5 palm trees. I don't know if there's some Southern California law that says you have to have a palm tree in your back yard or if there's some kind of palm tree competition to have the most palm trees in ones yard, but I'm bothered by them. We do not have any palm trees in our yard, nor will we ever. We will not jump on the palm tree bandwagon. If these trees did something cool, produced some coconuts or somehow transported you to Hawaii, I'd probably consider having a whole yardful. In the meantime, I'm just going to be a palm tree hater. We do not live in the tropics. If we did, I would undoubtedly love palm trees. But we don't.
